Probiotics – Dead or Alive?

So for those of you that have worked with us before or are currently working with us you will know that we are big on nurturing your gut environment with your nutrition and supplementation to ease the overall load on your body and produce results – at the end of the day we all want results, sometimes its the most overlooked aspect that’s holding you back, more than often this can be poor gut health.

Basically it works like this – 70-80% of your immune system resides in your gut, your gut really is like your second brain, if your not consciously putting in good quality foods, your stressed out whether it be over worked, under nourished, dehydrated – you name it, the effect on your gut and the good and bad bacteria ratios within gets thrown all out of whack, this leads to poor nutrient absorption, a stressed out nervous and hormonal system, and can really be that sticking point on achieving the results you desire.

So the obvious is overhauling your nutritional intake to support optimal gut health and at the same time to really speed the process along and get that fat loss moving we like to introduce a high quality probiotic. Now just because it says ‘Probiotic” on the label doesn’t mean it has probiotics in the product, this can be very misleading as probiotics are not all created equal and theres not really any stringent quality requirements set in stone to hold companies accountable.

So what are we looking for ??

We start off with the strain of Probiotic – so you’ll see names like Lactobacillus-Acidophilus, Bifidobacterium Lactis, Strepptococous Thermophillus etc Now if the product your buying has ‘Probiotic’ on the label but doesn’t offer up the name of the strain – put it back down and dont touch it again.

Secondly we are looking for a strain number or a batch number alongside to indicate that this is indeed a legitimate probiotic that has been studied and clinically validated for quality and its ability to support the gastrointestinal tract. Should look a little something like this – Lactobacillus Acidophillus NCFM or Bifidobacterium Lactis Bi-07. This is generally the best indicator that the product your considering for your body either makes the cut or it doesnt.

Last but definitely not least we want to shoot for a ‘LIVE’ bacteria count of 1billion to 50 billion ( just remember if the cultures arent alive then they offer us no benefits whatsoever ), to start of with the upper end of the scale is adviseable to ensure we shift the bacteria ratios in the stomach promptly, as the gut improves we can slowly reduce this intake. Touching again on the bacteria being ‘LIVE’ we need to pay a great deal of attention to the manufacturing date and the expiration.

If the products states – ** At the time of manufacture ** its more than likely that by the time its sits in storage, on a shelf or is delivered that the probiotic cultures will have perished.

So basically your spending money with absolutely no return. What you want to look for is – ‘this product is formulated to deliver a potency of ** billion organisms through to the date of expiration’. This gives us much more confidence that your getting what you have paid for.

So in a nut shell – check your labels diligently, ensure your using a high quality product and don’t buy cheap products that aren’t going to support your health and results.
